CREATIVE METHODS OF HIV & AIDS EDUCATION

THE PURPOSE
The Creative Methods of HIV & AIDS Education program provides village leaders and teachers with information about the cause, prevention, testing and treatment of HIV and AIDS. The program also trains individuals to reach and teach others in order to stem the tide of the AIDS epidemic in their villages.
HOW IT WORKS

Our current Creative Methods of HIV & AIDS Education program is a 4-day/16-session course for key leaders from each school zone in the central region of Malawi. These leaders are trained to be the Coordinating Teams for their school zones and consist of 4 people:

• Female Primary School Teacher

• Male Primary School Teacher

• Secondary School Teacher

• Primary Education Advisor

The sessions are taught in a variety of culturally relevant teaching methods and include information on HIV & AIDS topics, such as, cause, prevention, care-giving, testing, support agencies and more. The Coordinating Teams then share the lessons with their colleagues in the schools. These colleagues then incorporate the lessons in many ways to many groups, such as teacher meetings, student classes, clubs, assemblies, PTA gatherings, open days, mother’s groups and more!

THE RESULT

Countless adults, youth and children are being taught about HIV and AIDS prevention, testing, treatment and caregiving for those infected, resulting in:

• Reduction in stigma
• Increased number of people going for testing
• Increase in caregiving for those infected

``Teachers will have more skills and methodologies on how to deliver the messages to the students. They will acquire new skills on the topic of HIV and AIDS. This will enable teachers to share experiences and come together with new creative methods.``
